What’s Down That Street?

Hi! I’m Jamie. Welcome to my blog.
I’m a London-based travel and history writer with a passion for exploring the stories hidden in everyday streets. What’s Down That Street? is my travel blog where I share detailed city guides, day trip ideas, and cultural insights from across the UK and Europe.
I want What’s Down That Street? to be a travel blog for people who want more than just a checklist – so I focus on the places that help tell a story about the cities I visit. If you love discovering hidden gems, local and forgotten history, and architecture that tells a story, you’re in the right place.
My writing combines first-hand travel experience with research into the history and culture behind each destination. I’ve also been featured in popular travel publications including Travel Photo Discovery, Boozin’ Abroad, and GPSMyCity.
This site is independent, and every recommendation comes from genuine experience. I believe travel is most rewarding when you slow down, look up, and wonder what’s down that street?
All content and photos are my own, unless stated otherwise. You can find out more about me here, or explore my content below.
London’s museum guide
As a lifelong museum obsessive, I’ve spent years exploring London’s astonishing collection of museums, galleries, and curiosities. In 2025 I created London’s Museum Guide — an interactive tool covering all 240+ museums in the city. I hope it helps you to discover the perfect museum, and hopefully find a gem you didn’t know existed.
History & architecture
This blog began as a way to dive deeper into my love of history and architecture. I’m a lifelong student of both, fascinated by how the past shapes the cities we live in today — from medieval churches and baroque palaces to postwar rebuilding and modern design. In this section you’ll find stories that uncover the layers of history behind the streets and buildings we often walk past unnoticed.
Travel guides
I love sharing my experiences from travelling, and hope that people find my guides useful. I only write guides about places I know well and personally – especially the areas I’ve lived, like London and Gibraltar, and those that I’ve travelled extensively, like Spain, Italy and Istanbul – and focus on providing cultural and historical insights. Explore some of my travel guides below.
